Huawei and Ruijin Hospital Unveil RuiPath: A Breakthrough AI Model for Smart Pathology
February 19, 2025 – Huawei Technologies and Ruijin Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine officially introduced RuiPath, a next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) model designed for pathological diagnosis. The announcement took place at the 2025 Forum on AI-Driven Medical Development and Precision Diagnosis, marking a major advancement in the integration of AI with healthcare.
What Is RuiPath?
RuiPath is a multimodal AI diagnostic model that integrates various forms of medical data — clinical records, medical imaging, and pathology slides — to provide end-to-end insights into a patient’s disease journey. The model is built using Huawei's DCS AI framework with technical support from SenseTime Group and the Hengdao Pathology Center in Shanghai.
Through the fusion of diverse data types, RuiPath offers a comprehensive understanding of disease characteristics, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and speed for healthcare professionals.
Revolutionizing Pathological Diagnosis
Unlike traditional diagnostic systems, RuiPath uses digitally labeled datasets from Ruijin’s multidisciplinary expertise to analyze and diagnose pathology slides in seconds. The model has been trained on thousands of annotated clinical and pathological images, enabling fast, consistent, and highly accurate diagnosis.
Professor Ning Guang, President of Ruijin Hospital and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated that RuiPath is China’s first clinical-grade, multimodal, AI-powered pathology model, fully integrated into the hospital’s digital pathology system.
“It’s not just about technology. It's about life. RuiPath serves as an innovation lab for patient-centered care,” noted Prof. Ning.
China’s Hospitals Embrace AI Innovation

Huashan Hospital (Fudan University) is piloting the DeepSeek large language model for medical use.
Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital has deployed an on-premise environment for DeepSeek-R1 focused on clinical intelligence.
